Former 67’s featured in upcoming Colonel By Classic
Three former Ottawa 67’s will be back in their old stomping grounds on October 19 as the puck drops on a brand new hockey tradition at TD Place.
Following in the footsteps of the annual Panda Game (football) and Capital Hoops (basketball), which pits rival schools Carleton University and the University of Ottawa against each other, next Wednesday will feature the hockey incarnation of the rivalry.
Though allegiances are evenly split when the Ravens and Gee-Gees go head-to-head in any competition, 67’s fans taking in the game will probably lean towards Carleton. Three players on the Ravens roster this season previously suited up for the Barber Poles, including defenceman Evan de Haan and centre Curtis Meighan – both of whom played for Ottawa last year — and winger Ryan Van Stralen, who last played for the 67’s in 2014.
Carleton is coming off a CIS University Cup quarterfinals appearance last season while the Gee-Gees are celebrating the return of their hockey program to the school.
“We are excited to be hosting the next installment of what has proven to be one of the most heated rivalries in CIS sports,” said OSEG CEO Bernie Ashe. “Carleton and uOttawa students and faculty are so passionate about their teams and we’re confident the Colonel By Classic will grow into a beloved piece of the Ottawa sports landscape, much like the Panda Game.”
Tickets are $20 (fees included) and can be purchased by clicking here or at both schools.
