Bilingual Communications and Content Specialist

Location: Ottawa, Ontario

Reporting to the Director of Communications and Content, the Communications and Content Specialist will be responsible for Media Relations for the sports teams and TD Place as well as content creation for team and TD Place websites, scoreboard shows and communications to fans. This position also supports other OSEG departments including Marketing, Partnerships, Ticketing and Venues/Entertainment Services. The candidate for this role must have outstanding English and French spoken and written communications skills and a passion for sports.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Prepare media game notes for sports teams.
  • Write and distribute news releases.
  • Manage game-day media relations.
  • Organize and host news conferences.
  • Adhere to the communications guidelines and requirements as outline by the leagues in which our teams play.
  • Be a primary contact for media and facilitate interviews.
  • Attend team practices and manage media relations.
  • Research, write content and manage production of annual team media guides and program booklets.
  • Translate English writing to French, as required.
  • Be active on social media to provide fans with interesting/fun info, images and other content.
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships with sports team players, coaches and executive staffs.
  • Be an active member of the content creation team generating ideas and producing stories.
  • Pitch and position features, profiles and general coverage with local and national media along with non-traditional media outlets.
  • Build and foster relationships with media; grow the media database for all OSEG properties.
  • Support broadcast coverage (TV, radio, online) of all sports properties.
  • Monitoring media coverage of all OSEG properties.
  • Strive for excellence with everything you write or produce.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

  • A degree in communications, public relations, journalism or related discipline;
  • 3-5 years’ experience in media relations and/or marketing communications;
  • Impeccable communication skills (spoken and written) in English and French;
  • Thorough understanding of CFL football, hockey and soccer;
  • Exceptional writing/proof-reading skills in English and French;
  • Social media savvy;
  • Strong interpersonal skills;
  • Highly organized and able to multi-task;
  • Excellent project/time management skills and strong attention to detail;
  • A team player willing to step-in wherever needed;
  • Able to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines;
  • Comfortable on camera and hosting live news events;
  • Marketing/Communications experience;
  • Willing to work unusual hours;
  • Able and willing to travel;
  • Expertise with MS Office (Word, Excel and PPT) and other business applications;
  • Adobe Premier and Photoshop skills an asset;

Conversion Crew

Location: Ottawa, Ontario

Title: Conversion Crew – Team Member

Department: Stadium Operations

Number of Openings: Up to 15

Hourly rate: $14.75

Status: Seasonal Part-Time

Purpose
     
Reporting into TD Place Operations, you are a member of the conversion/changeover crew. Duties required converting the arena from hockey mode, to concert, or other event modes (and back) and converting the stadium from football mode to soccer mode, to concert or other event modes (and back). In addition, you will ensure that any event preparation/setup required for shows or sporting events are to run safely and efficiently.

Duties and Responsibilities

Arena:
⦁    Converting arena for event set-ups as needed. 
⦁    Set up and tear down of materials for events like tables, flooring, stage, chairs etc. 
⦁    Assist other departments with arranging set-ups for event needs.
⦁    Must wear CSA approved safety footwear and other PPE at all times required. 
⦁    Assist with daily maintenance and upkeep of department equipment. 
⦁    Other duties as assigned.

Stadium:
⦁    Converting stadium for event set-ups as needed. 
⦁    Set up and tear down of materials for events like goal nets and posts, fencing, signage etc. 
⦁    Assist other departments with arranging set-ups for outdoor event needs.
⦁    Must wear CSA approved safety footwear and other PPE at all times required. 
⦁    Assist with daily maintenance and upkeep of department equipment. 
⦁    Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Other Experience
⦁    Any labour experience is an asset.
⦁    MUST have CSA approved steel toe work boots. 
⦁    Ability to do heavy lifting and carry up to 50 pounds. 
⦁    Demonstrate familiarity with tools and maintenance equipment. 
⦁    Ability to work with limited supervision and as a team member. 
⦁    Ability to work varied schedule including days, evenings, overnights and weekends.

Working Conditions
⦁    Work requires significant physical effort, walking (including stairs), and lifting heavy weights. 
⦁    Work requires utilizing tools and equipment that could cause physical injury if not handled and operated following safety practices and procedures. 
⦁    Required to follow WHMIS and provincial Health and Safety requirements.
