Hockey Canada’s U20 National Junior Team Summer Development Camp got underway this week, as players, coaches and members of the staff all logged in to the virtual meetings that started Monday and that will stretch until the end of this week.

Representing the Ottawa 67’s Barber Poles were four members of the 67’s organization, including two players. Forwards Jack Quinn and Graeme Clarke are the two skaters in question participating in this camp, while 67’s bench boss Andre Tourigny will be leading the charge as Head Coach of the team. Rounding out the 67’s representatives is Head Equipment Manager Chris Hamilton, who represented Hockey Canada team during 2013 U18 World Championships in Sochi, Russia where Canada won the gold medal. He was also part of the 2014 & 2016 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Cup U18 Tournament where Canada won the gold medal and had a fifth place finish respectively.

Tourigny is no stranger to the Hockey Canada structure, as he represented the Maple Leaf on six separate occasions in various events such as the World Under-20 Junior Hockey Championships and the Under-18 Hlinka Gretzky Cup. He has notably won gold as a Head Coach at the 2018 Hlinka Gretzky Cup, Gold as an Assistant Coach with last year’s edition of the U-20 team, as well as two other silver medals as an Assistant Coach with the U-20’s.

“Most important thing for me was finding a solution to build those relationships and to have fun and smile together. I think building that team chemistry is the most important thing,” said Tourigny in an interview with Sportsnets’ Rob Faulds about the camp. “All the people involved, we’ve been very creative. We will have some team building activities, some games allowing the players to interact, some presentations, group work and a few surprises during the camp.”

Finally, Jack Quinn will be taking his first steps among the Hockey Canada structure with this virtual camp, as he had never participated to a HC event prior. Quinn burst onto the scene this past season with 52 goals and 37 assists for 89 points in 62 games, making him one of the top prospects for the upcoming 2020 NHL Entry Draft. His teammate, Graeme Clarke, has more experience wearing the Canadian Maple Leaf, as he participated in the 2017 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge and won gold at the 2018 Hlinka-Gretzky Cup.

It’s worth noting that two more members of the 67’s organization participated in another virtual camp last week. Ottawa top two picks in the past OHL Priority Selection Draft, Nick Moldenhauer (20th overall) and Brady Stonehouse (26th overall), both logged into Hockey Canada’s U-17 Virtual Camp.
