Ottawa 67’s Training Camp Presented by TD

After an 18-month absence due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Ottawa 67’s finally returned to the ice, Thursday, for the start of their 2021-2022 training camp.

The first players reported to The Arena at TD Place at 8am EDT, undergoing rapid testing for COVID-19, and posing for headshots, as well as undergoing medicals, and fitness testing. From there, all 56 players reporting to camp attended meetings, before finally lacing up for on-ice skills sessions to finish off the day.

A bevy of new faces can be found around Lansdowne this season, with the Barber Poles graduating some high-end talent, but also bringing in a talented crop of youngsters, like 2021 first-round picks Chris Barlas, and Luca Pinelli. Of course, returning are some key contributors; in NHL prospects Jack Matier (Nashville Predators), Jack Beck (Calgary Flames), and Will Cranley (St. Louis Blues), along with the likes of Alec Belanger, Cameron Tolnai, and Adam Varga.

Perhaps the highest-profile addition comes in the form of new 67’s head coach Dave Cameron, who returns to the Ontario Hockey League for the first time since 2011. Cameron coached on the Ottawa Senators’ staff from 2011 to 2016, including a stint as their head coach from 2014 to 2016. From there, Cameron moved on to an assistant job with the Calgary Flames, before spending the last two years behind the bench of the Vienna Capitals, in Austria.

Though yesterday was something of an administrative day for the 67s’, their 2021 training camp kicks into high gear today. The Barber Poles will play four exhibition games from Friday morning through Saturday night, and fans can expect some highly competitive hockey when they tune in via the 67’s Twitch channel.
