Professional Soccer is back at TD Place!
The 2021 Atlético Ottawa home season is here. No doubt, it will be a party at TD Place all season long. With so many ticket options, there’s absolutely no reason not to come say “Vamos Atlético” and experience a match this season.
Atlético Ottawa is the newest addition to the Canadian Premiere League, joining last year. The club played in two bubble tournaments and are now coming home for their first season at TD Place.
If you recognize the name ‘Atlético’, it’s probably because Atlético Madrid in Spain is one of the world’s most successful clubs. As a member of the ‘red and white’ family, Atlético Ottawa inherits a 100 plus years philosophy from Madrid with an enormous emphasis on hard-work, courage and a ’never give up’ attitude.
Here is a breakdown of the historic first season at TD Place beyond the Pay What You Want Home Opener on August 14th:
Wednesday, Aug. 18th vs York United. The Wednesday after our Home Opener is against our rivals from Toronto. This should be a good one. They have stripes, we have stripes. The 416/613 Derby.
Saturday, Aug. 21st vs Valour FC – This is a Canadian Championship match. This is huge. Under the lights on a Saturday Night. Doesn’t get any better. Quick explainer of the Canadian Championship… You see, a bunch of soccer teams in Canada play each other in knockout tournament with the winner getting crowned the Champions of Canada, and awarded The Voyageurs Cup and a spot in the CONCACAF Champions League, facing the best teams from the region.
Sunday, Aug. 29th vs HFX Wanderers FC – Our East Coast competition will make their way back to TD Place just two weeks after our PWYW Home Opener. This should be a doozy with one of us looking for revenge, no doubt.
Wednesday, Sept 1st vs York United – The tread marks on the 401/417 highways will still be fresh as York make their way back to the Capital.
Wednesday, Sept. 8th vs Forge FC – Can’t wait for this one. Forge FC won the Canadian Premiere League Championship in 2019 and 2020 and will be looking to keep that momentum going.
Saturday Sept. 11th vs HFX Wanderers – It’s a Saturday afternoon matinee at TD Place starring our second favourite East coasters. (Anne Murray filling the top spot, naturally) Will be the third visits for HFX, so chances are very high that there will be some animosity in the air that afternoon.
Saturday, Sept. 25th vs Cavalry FC – The season series with Cavalry is split. They won one and we won one. This is the rubber match. We’ll need a full house at TD Place for this one. Circle this in your calendar.
Sunday, Oct. 3rd vs Forge FC – We did not get to face Forge FC in the Winnipeg bubble, so we should learn a lot about them in early Sept. when we play the the first time. This will be our second meeting. We can already hear our supporter drums beating for this one.
Wednesday, Oct. 20th vs Valour FC – This one has been circled on the calendar for a while. Valour are a tough team with a talented line up, and we love challenges. You don’t want to miss this one.
Sunday, Oct. 24th vs York United – Our final home match of the season. And look, it’s York United. A fitting opponent for our last regular season match. 613 vs 416.
See you at TD Place!
